PRESENTATION MINOR SURGERY SET BY COXETER 1852
[lightslider_looper]

An interesting set, presented to Henry James Ellery by the Middlesex Hospital School of Medicine,a prize for surgery for the 1851-1852 session. It retains almost all its original contents. Three of the four bistouries in the lid are stamped “Coxeter”, as are five of the six scalpels and hooks, and the folding two-bladed bistoury. Also in the set are a set of glass-headed hare-lip pins, an attractive pair of locking cleft palate forceps, and two suture needles, all of the same period. The case and instruments are in good condition overall. There are some very minor spots of corrosion, but most of the steel retains its original polish. The folding bistoury shows wear and a repair, obviously having been carries in someone’s pocket.
