A Complete Surgical Set made by “G. TIEMANN & CO. MANUFACTURERS OF SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS 63 CHATHAM STREET N.Y.” (Circa 1855 to 1864) with Original Personal Engraving on Cartouche (the metal piece on the top of the wood box) which reads “J.M. Knox, M.D., Burlingam, Vi.”

This mid 19th century surgical set is made by arguably the best known surgical instrument maker of Amenrican surgical instruments of the 1800s, George Tiemann.

This set is in excellent condition and complete. It is a smaller wooden cased set (compared to others in the collection) with all the basic necessities for a general amputation and general surgery.

Based on the logo indicating the set was made at the 63 Chatham Street location, I can presume the set was made between 1855 and 1864 as Tiemman was located at 63 Chatham Street in New York City from 1855 to 1864 and in 1864 moved to 67 Chatham Street just prior to the Civil War.
